Bhagavadgita 17.18 & 17.19

सत्कारमानपूजार्थं तपो दम्भेन चैव यत्।

क्रियते तदिह प्रोक्तं राजसं चलमध्रुवम्।।17.18।।

17.18 Those ostentatious penances and austerities which are performed in order to gain respect, honor and reverence are said to be in the mode of passion. They are neither stable nor permanent.

17.18 ತನಗೆ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಯು, ಮನ್ನಣೆಯು ದೊರೆಯಲೆಂದು ದಂಭದಿಂದ ತಪಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದಾದರೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಫಲವನ್ನು ಅದು ಕೊಡಲಾರದು. ಅದು ರಾಜಸ ತಪಸ್ಸೆನಿಸುವುದು.

मूढग्राहेणात्मनो यत्पीडया क्रियते तपः।

परस्योत्सादनार्थं वा तत्तामसमुदाहृतम्।।17.19।।

17.19 And those penances and austerities which are performed foolishly by means of obstinant self-torture, or to destroy or injure others, are said to be in the mode of ignorance.

17.19 ಏನೂ ತಿಳಿಯದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಪಟ್ಟುಹಿಡಿದು, ಅವಿವೇಕತನದಿಂದ ತನಗೆ ಹಾನಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಅಥವಾ ಮತ್ತೊಬರನ್ನು ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಯಾವ ತಪಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವರೋ ಅದು ತಾಮಸವೆನಿಸುವುದು.
