अश्रद्धया हुतं दत्तं तपस्तप्तं कृतं च यत्।

असदित्युच्यते पार्थ न च तत्प्रेत्य नो इह।।17.28।।

17.28 But sacrifices, austerities and charities performed without faith in the Supreme are nonpermanent, O son of Prtha, regardless of whatever rites are performed. They are called asat and are useless both in this life and the next.

17.28 ಅಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಯಜ್ಞ, ದಾನ, ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇ ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಅಸತ್ ಎನಿಸುವುದು. ಅದು ಇಹಪರಗಳೆರಡರಲ್ಲೂ ಫಲಕಾರಿಯಾಗದು.

अर्जुन उवाच

संन्यासस्य महाबाहो तत्त्वमिच्छामि वेदितुम्।

त्यागस्य च हृषीकेश पृथक्केशिनिषूदन।।18.1।।

18.1 Arjuna said, O mighty-armed one, I wish to understand the purpose of renunciation [tyaga] and of the renounced order of life [sannyasa], O killer of the Kesi demon, Hrsikesa.

18.1 ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ-

ಎಲೈ ಮಹಾಬಾಹುವಾದ ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶನೇ, ಕೇಶಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂದಾತನೇ, ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸದ ತತ್ವವನ್ನೂ, ತ್ಯಾಗದ ತತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ಬೇರೆಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
